Overview
The City of Maricopa is preparing to begin construction on the Smith Enke Road and John Wayne Parkway (SR347) Intersection Improvement Project in the coming weeks. This project is an important part of the city's plan to ensure our infrastructure meets the growing needs of our community.
The Intersection improvements will include added safety features, dual left turn lanes, and a dedicated "free flow" right turn lane onto northbound John Wayne Pkwy (SR347). Overall, this improvement project will increase the intersection's capacity to handle higher traffic volumes.
The project's anticipated completion date is by Spring of 2025.
Project Area
A majority of the work being completed will take place to the east of John Wayne Pkwy on Smith Enke Road. This includes the creation of a dedicated, free flowing right turn lane onto northbound John Wayne Pkwy (SR347), a second left-hand turn lane onto southbound John Wayne Pkwy, adding a raised median and adding an access road that redirects traffic entering the CVS shopping center north of Smith Enke Road and east of the intersection to a secondary entrance reducing the chances for collisions.

Another phase of the project will impact SR238 approaching the intersection to the west of John Wayne Pkwy. The existing raised median will be extended to allow for more queuing space for vehicles waiting to turn left onto northbound John Wayne Pkwy (SR347). In addition, that median will redirect westbound traffic entering the Bashas shopping center to a secondary entrance further to the west.
