The City of Maricopa Emergency Communications Center (ECC) began offering 9-1-1 and dispatch services on May 4, 2016. Our staff of 10 Public Safety Dispatchers, 1 Supervisor, and a Communications Manager work 12 hour shifts to ensure your calls are always answered. Our center is manned 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and 365 days per year.
The City of Maricopa Emergency Communications Center acts as the primary answering point for the police and fire departments within the City of Maricopa. While we do answer all incoming emergency calls, we do not dispatch for medical or fire emergencies. If you have a medical or fire emergency, your call will be transferred to the appropriate agency.
However, in order to provide excellent customer service, our highly trained dispatchers require help from the callers.

The ability to send a text message to reach 911 emergency is now available in the City of Maricopa and all of Pinal County. While texting is available, voice calls to 911 are much more expedient and provide much more information to 911 call centers.
How to text 911
- Enter the numbers ‘911’ in the ‘To’ field on your mobile device.
- ALWAYS provide your location and the nature of your emergency in your original text message.
- ‘Send’ your message.
- Be prepared to answer questions and follow any instructions provided to you by the 911 operator.
- Reply as quickly as possible.
- Always remember to use simple words.No abbreviations!
Important facts to know
- Voice calls are ALWAYS the best option for contacting 911.
- Texting is not available from deactivated cell phones, but you can still call 911 from them.
- A Text-to-911 may take longer to be received, may be delivered out of order, or not received at all.
- Text-to-911 is not available if your cellular device is in ‘roaming’ status.
- You will receive a ‘bounce back’ message when texting is not available.
- Photos and videos cannot be sent to 911.
- Do not text and drive!
Location
LOCATION is the number one most important thing that is needed to provide the best police response time possible. While the ECC contains state-of-the-art communications technology, when calling 9-1-1 the dispatcher will always verify the information they receive. This is to help ensure there was no error in the location information provided. Knowing cross-streets, landmarks, nearby businesses can also help your dispatcher send help the right direction.
Descriptions
During your call the dispatch may ask several questions. Below are a couple of the most common ones.
Descriptions of the subjects or suspects involved. These questions may include:
- Gender
- Ethnicity
- Approx. Age
- Height/Weight or body type
- Hair color and style
- Clothing description, top to bottom
Descriptions of vehicles involved. These questions may include:
- Color
- Year
- Make/Model
- License/State
- Additional information – body style, tinted windows, bumper stickers, etc.
