The Investigations Unit is responsible for following up on criminal cases, preparing criminal cases for court and investigating serious crime scenes and arresting outstanding suspects. Detectives receive specialized training in interviewing techniques, identifying evidence and crime scene processing.

Currently, Maricopa Police Department has one Detective Sergeant and six detectives.
