officers at the property and evidence windowThe Property & Evidence Section is staffed with two full-time employees and one full time volunteer. The Property & Evidence staff are primarily responsible for:

  • the intake and storage of evidence.
  • safekeeping items.
  • providing the various courts with digital evidence.
  • transporting evidence to and from the crime lab when needed.
  • disposing of items once they are no longer needed.
    • These items are either sold at auction, destroyed or returned to their rightful owner.

Once items are no longer needed for court, or if they have been authorized for release, the items may be picked up at the Copper Sky Police Substation at 17985 N Greythorn Dr, Maricopa Az, 85138. The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am - 6:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Please call 520-316-6877 to make arrangements and to make sure that your items are available for pick up. A state/government issued photo identification card is required for all releases.

The Property & Evidence Section stores evidentiary and safekeeping firearms. In some cases, a citizen may be required to turn in their firearms due to an order of protection. To turn in your firearms under these circumstances, please contact an Officer at the main police station at 39675 W Civic Center Plaza South, Maricopa Az 85138. When firearms are available for release, an advance appointment is required due to the paperwork involved for the release.

The Maricopa Police Department has partnered with the Phoenix Police Department's NIBIN (National Integrated Ballistic Information Network) program. This program allows us to work with agencies throughout the country to match up gun crimes using the shell casings that are left behind at crime scenes. In 2015, we were able to link two gun crimes in Maricopa. The shell casings left behind at a shots fired call matched a firearm used in an armed robbery. This match helped solve two crimes in our city.
